Hillary Cansler awarded NIH postdoctoral fellowship

UFCST member, Dr. Hillary Cansler was awarded a prestigious three-year fellowship from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD).
Through the fellowship, Dr. Cansler will study the brain mechanisms that allow for selective attention to odors. In her postdoctoral NRSA F32 fellowship, “Odor-Directed Attention and the Medial Prefrontal Cortex,” Dr. Cansler will use optogenetics and fiber photometry from rats engaged in a selective attention task to determine how prefrontal cortex neurons represent selective attention and how exactly they may contribute to odor-guided decisions and perceptions.
Dr. Cansler is a postdoctoral fellow in the Wesson lab in the UF College of Medicine’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
