Treatment may be available for some patients experience smell loss or smell dysfunction, but for many conditions that affect smell there are no effective treatments.
Conditions such as chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, or a simple physical blockage of the nasal passageway are treatable. Other times smell loss may resolve on its own over time.
If treatment is not available for a particular patient’s condition, the Olfaction Clinic at UFHealth can still help.
Living with smell dysfunction can affect one’s ability to enjoy simple things like their favorite foods and drinks and can lead to depression and feelings of isolation.
Through its partnership with the University of Florida Center for Smell and Taste, the Olfaction Clinic can provide educational resources and information to patients that will help them learn how to cope with smell dysfunction in their daily lives.
